Parashurama Dwadashi,
also known as Jamadagnya Parashurama Vrata, is a sacred observance
dedicated to Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Celebrated on the twelfth day (Dwadashi) of the Shukla Paksha in
the Hindu month of Vaisakha, this vrata holds immense significance for
devotees seeking strength, wisdom, and spiritual salvation.
Parashurama is regarded
as a Chiranjivi (immortal being) who played crucial roles in Hindu epics
such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana. His unwavering devotion to Lord
Shiva granted him the celestial weapon Bhargavastra, and he was a
revered mentor to great warriors like Bhishma, Drona, and Karna.
Mythological Significance
Lord Parashurama, the son
of Sage Jamadagni and Renuka, is celebrated for his fierce righteousness
and martial expertise. He is often depicted with an axe (Parashu)
given to him by Lord Shiva as a reward for his devotion. His life story
symbolizes the triumph of dharma over adharma, as he vanquished corrupt
Kshatriya rulers to restore balance in society.
Devotees believe that
observing Parashurama Dwadashi Vrata brings blessings, fulfills desires,
and aids in attaining moksha (liberation).
