Pradosh Vrat,
observed on the Trayodashi tithi (13th lunar day) of both Krishna
Paksha and Shukla Paksha, is a deeply revered fast dedicated to Lord
Shiva and Devi Parvati. It occurs twice a month and is open
to all devotees, regardless of age or gender.
Meaning and Timing
- The word Pradosh refers to the
twilight period—the sacred time between day and night.
- Puja is performed one hour before
sunset, during the Sandhyakaal, when divine energies are
believed to be most accessible.
Rituals and Puja Vidhi
- Bath and Preparation:
Devotees bathe and prepare for puja before sunset.
- Kalasha Puja:
Lord Shiva is invoked in a sacred Kalasha placed on darbha grass
with a lotus drawn beneath.
- Shivling Abhishekam:
Performed with milk, curd, ghee, and Bilva leaves.

Lord Shiva, Parvati, Ganesh, Kartikeya, and Nandi.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is recited 108 times.
