Introduction
Sri Kapileshwar Mahadev Mandir, located in Balod town, Chhattisgarh, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva in his incarnation as Kapileshwar Mahadev. This temple is the centerpiece of a group of six temples, collectively known as the Kapileshwar Temple Group, built in the Peeda Deval style during the 13th–14th century A.D.
Temple Complex
The
Kapileshwar Temple Group consists of six shrines dedicated to:
- Lord Shiva (Kapileshwar Mahadev)
– the largest and main temple, east-facing.
- Goddess Durga
- Lord Ganesha
– two 6-feet statues flank the main temple entrance.
- Lord Krishna
- Goddess Santoshi
– the smallest temple in the group, with a peak shaped in Peeda Deval
style.
- Ram Janaki (Lord Rama & Goddess
Sita)
At the entrance of the main temple, idols of Ganga, Yamuna, and the gatekeepers are installed on either side of the doorway.
Architecture

typical of medieval temple architecture.
- The east-facing Kapileshwar Temple
is the largest among the group.
- Distinctive shikhara (spire) design reflects the stylistic features of the 13th–14th century.

- By Road:
Balod is well connected by road to Raipur (approx. 120 km) and Durg
(approx. 45 km). Regular buses and taxis are available.
- By Rail:
The nearest major railway station is Durg Junction, from where
Balod can be reached by local transport.
- By Air: The closest airport is Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, about 120 km away. From the airport, taxis and buses connect to Balod.

October to March, when the weather is pleasant.

Leave footwear outside the temple premises as per tradition.
