Nestled in Vardarajpur
Village, Jagdevpur Mandal, Siddipet District (Telangana), the Sri
Varadaraja Swamy Temple stands as a magnificent symbol of devotion and
heritage. Dedicated to Lord Varadaraja Swamy, an incarnation of Lord
Vishnu, this temple reflects centuries of faith and architectural
brilliance.
Deity & Significance
The presiding deity, Varadaraja
Swamy, holds the Shanka (conch) in his upper right hand and the Chakra
(disc) in his left, symbolizing divine protection and righteousness.
Architectural Splendor
Built in 1356 A.D.,
the temple showcases Chola‑style architecture with:
- A three‑tier Rajagopuram
facing east.
- A Dwaja Stambham before the
sanctum.
- A Koneru (temple tank) in the
south.
Divine Legend
The temple’s origin is
rooted in a divine vision. Ancestors of the present chairman’s family carried
the idol of Varadaraja Swamy from Vishnu Kanchi (Tamil Nadu) to Raygadh.
Lord Varadaraja appeared in dreams, instructing them to build a temple at
Vardarajpur. Repeated divine signs, including the cart axle breaking twice,
convinced them to establish the shrine here.
The Nawab of Medak
granted land, allowing as much as the devotee could run with a burning coal
bowl on his head—covering nearly 1400 acres. Construction took 10
years, and since then, Vyshaka Pournami Yatra and Garuda Seva
have been celebrated annually for over six centuries.
Festivals
- Vyshaka Pournami Yatra
– grand procession similar to Vishnu Kanchi’s Garuda Seva.
- Devotees gather in large numbers to
witness the divine celebrations.
