Annakshetra – Serving Devotees with Divine Prasadi
Introduction
The tradition of Annadaan (food donation) is considered the highest form of charity in Hinduism. Upholding this sacred value, the Shri Mahakaleshwar Free Annakshetra was inaugurated on 2 August 2004, the first Monday of Shravan, under the management of the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Committee. Since then, it has become a symbol of compassion and devotion, serving thousands of devotees daily.
Daily Service to Devotees
- Meals Provided:
Traditional prasadi meals including Dal, Rice, Roti, Sabzi, and one
sweet.
- Special Occasions:
On festivals like Mahashivaratri, falahaari prasadi such as sabudana
khichdi or kheer is served.
- Timings:
Meals are distributed daily from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
- Capacity: Around 7,000–8,000 devotees are served every day
Infrastructure &
Hygiene
- The Annakshetra operates in a large,
well-organized building.
- Equipped with modern cooking
machines to ensure hygiene and efficiency.
- Food is prepared with utmost care,
maintaining purity and taste.
Distribution System
- Meals are distributed through a coupon
system, managed respectfully by the Temple Committee.
- This ensures orderly service and
equal access for all devotees.

the essence of “Annadaan is the highest form of charity.”
- Feeding devotees is seen as an
offering to Lord Shiva himself.
