Vayalpadu: A Sacred Gem
Near Tirupati
Nestled about 100
kilometers from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, Vayalpadu is a village
steeped in history, legend, and devotion. Once known as Boyalapadu due
to its large population, the name gradually evolved—some say from Vavilpadu,
inspired by the abundance of vavili trees, while others connect it to the
sacred presence of Sage Valmiki.
Legends and Sacred
Origins
According to tradition,
Sage Valmiki performed penance here and discovered the idols of Sita, Rama,
Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna, which were later consecrated by
Jambavanta. This divine connection makes Vayalpadu a spiritually significant
destination for devotees.
Pattabhirama Swami Temple
At the heart of the
village lies the Pattabhirama Swami Temple, a magnificent shrine
surrounded by the Nooru Koppula Kondalu (Sata Sringa hills), where
Valmiki’s hermitage is believed to have stood. The Bahuda River
encircles the village, adding to its serene charm.
