Atla Taddi 2025 – Rituals, Story & Significance of the Auspicious Fast

When Is Atla Taddi Celebrated?

Atla Taddi falls on the third night after the full moon in the Hindu month of Ashwayuja (September–October).

In 2025, Atla Taddi will be observed on Thursday, October 9.

Significance

Atla Taddi is a cherished festival in Andhra Pradesh, celebrated by married women and young girls to seek the blessings of Goddess Gauri for a happy, long, and prosperous married life.

It symbolizes the strength of a woman’s devotion and the power of her good deeds in protecting and uplifting her husband.

Mythological Story

According to legend, a princess once attempted to observe Atla Taddi but fainted from hunger and thirst. Her brothers tricked her by showing a fire’s reflection in a mirror, resembling the moon, to help her break the fast.
Years later, she faced difficulties in finding a suitable groom and was nearly married to an old man. In despair, she fled to the forest, where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati revealed that her incomplete ritual had caused her misfortune.
She returned, completed the Atla Taddi Nomu with full devotion, and was soon blessed with a handsome, young husband.
