What is Koti Somavaram?
Koti Somavaram
is the most spiritually potent Monday of Kartika Masam, observed when Shravana
Nakshatra aligns before Kartik Purnima. The term Koti Somavaram
means “one crore Mondays,” and it is believed that observing vratam on this
day grants the merit of performing one crore Somavara vratas.
Rituals and Observances
- Abhishekam to Lord Shiva:
     Devotees perform sacred bathing rituals using water, milk, and bilva
     leaves.
- Rudrabhishekam:
     Chanting of Rudram and offering ghee lamps is considered highly
     auspicious.
- Deepa Daanam:
     Lighting ghee lamps at temples and homes enhances spiritual merit.
- Upavasam (Fasting):
     Fasting on this day is equivalent to fasting on all Mondays of Kartika
     Masam.
