Sri Paataala Vinayaka Temple – A Divine Discovery in Padagiri Gutta
Temple Overview
Padagiri Sri Paataala
Vinayaka Swamy Temple is one of the rare and ancient temples
dedicated to Lord Vinayaka in Andhra Pradesh, located in Irala
Mandal, Chittoor District, just 20 km from Chittoor, and 7
km from Kanipakam. The temple is nestled on a small hillock and revered for
its unique linga-shaped Vinayaka idol, believed to have emerged from a
sacred well.
Sthalapurana & Legend
About 200 years ago, a Harikatha
artist named Ramachandraiah from Kangundi village received a divine vision
of Lord Vinayaka while staying in Gopalakrishnapuram. The Lord instructed him
to build a temple at Padagiri Gutta. Upon visiting the site, villagers
discovered the idol of Vinayaka in a well, and built a temple out of
pure devotion. The idol is said to have naturally formed eyes and a growing
base, adding to its mystical aura.
