Tirupati Temples
Tirupati, under the
administration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), is one of
India’s most revered pilgrimage centers. Beyond the famous Tirumala
Venkateswara Temple, the town and its surroundings are dotted with ancient
shrines that narrate centuries of devotion, legends, and architectural
brilliance.
Sri Govindarajaswami
Temple
Founded in 1130 A.D. by
Sri Ramanuja, this temple is located near Tirupati Railway Station at the foot
of the Tirumala Hills. The deity, Sri Govindaraja, is seen in a reclining pose.
Shrines of Sri Andal, Sri Parthasarathi, and Sri Venkateswara are also present
here.
Sri Kodandarama Swami
Temple
Dedicated to Lord Rama,
this temple lies just a kilometer from Tirupati railway station. Built in the
16th century, it commemorates the visit of Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita to
Tirupati after their return from Lanka.
Sri Kapileswaraswami
Temple
Located 3 km from
Tirupati, this shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Installed by Kapila Maharshi,
the deity is called Kapileswara, and the sacred tank here is known as
Kapilatirtham.
Alamelumangapuram
(Tiruchanur)
About 5 km from Tirupati,
Tiruchanur houses the temple of Sri Padmavathi Devi, consort of Lord
Venkateswara. Pilgrims believe that a visit to Tirumala is complete only after
worshipping Goddess Padmavathi here. The sacred Padma Sarovar tank is where the
Goddess is said to have revealed Herself on a lotus.
Srinivasa Mangapuram
Situated 12 km west of
Tirupati, this shrine marks the place where Lord Venkateswara stayed briefly
after marrying Padmavathi Devi. Renovated in the 16th century, it remains a
significant Vaishnava site.
Narayanavanam
About 22 km southeast of
Tirupati, Narayanavanam is believed to be the place where Lord Venkateswara
married Padmavathi Devi. The temple dedicated to Kalyana Venkateswara
commemorates this divine wedding.
Nagalapuram
Located 65 km southeast
of Tirupati, this temple is dedicated to Lord Veda Narayanaswamy in
Matsyavatara form. A unique phenomenon occurs every March when the Sun’s rays
pass through the temple gopuram and fall directly on the sanctum idol for three
days.
Appalayagunta
15 km from Tirupati, the
temple of Lord Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy is known for grand Brahmotsavam and
Teppotsavam festivals. Shrines of Goddess Padmavathi, Sri Andal, and Anjaneya
are also present here.

Near Puttur, 58 km from
Tirupati, this temple is dedicated to Lord Venugopalaswami with Rukmini and
Satyabhama. It also houses monolithic idols of Sita, Rama, Lakshmana, and
