Rudraksha Beads – Tears of Lord Shiva and Their Cosmic Power
Introduction
The very term Rudraksha
reveals its divine origin: Rudra refers to Lord Shiva, while aksha
means tears. Rudraksha beads are thus revered as the blessings of Shiva’s
endless tapasya. Authentic beads grow on the Rudraksha tree, native to Nepal
and the Himalayan foothills, and are covered by a blue outer shell. Each bead
matures over 10–12 years before bearing fruit, which when ripened, reveals the
sacred Rudraksha seed.
Origins and Varieties
- Indian Rudraksha:
Traditionally sourced from the Gangetic plains.
- Nepalese Rudraksha:
Larger, glossier beads, highly sought after.
- Indonesian Rudraksha (Java):
Smaller in size but spiritually potent.
The true spiritual
strength of a Rudraksha lies in its mukhis (natural grooves). Beads can
range from 1 to 21 mukhis, each carrying unique divine and planetary
associations.

Higher mukhis (11–21) are
rarer, each associated with specific deities and purposes.
