Introduction
The Sri Mahalakshmi
Temple in Goravanahalli Village, Tumkur District, Karnataka, is one
of the most revered shrines dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, the consort of
Lord Vishnu. The temple is unique as the Goddess here is self-manifested
(Swayambhu), drawing devotees from across Karnataka and beyond.

Historical Background
Local tradition narrates
that in the early 1900s, a villager named Abbayya discovered the idol of
Goddess Mahalakshmi. Worshipping her at home, he was blessed with prosperity,
and his residence came to be known as Lakshmi Nivas.
His brother Thotadappa,
inspired by a divine vision, constructed the temple and began worshipping the
Goddess here. After his passing, Chowdavya continued the pujas, ensuring
the temple’s legacy of devotion.
