Lord Brahma, revered as
the God of Creation in Hinduism, is a key member of the Trimurti
alongside Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. Known as the divine architect of the
universe, Brahma is considered merciful and lenient, blessing devotees with
wish-fulfilment. Yet, unlike Shiva and Vishnu, Brahma is worshipped very
rarely, with only a handful of temples dedicated to him across India.
Why Lord Brahma is Not
Worshipped
Two main beliefs explain
this rarity:
1. Role
Completed: Brahma’s primary role was creation. With the universe
established, the ongoing tasks of preservation and transformation are carried
out by Vishnu and Shiva.
2. Leniency
Towards Demons: Traditional stories say Brahma granted
boons even to demons like Mahishasura and Ravana. These powers were misused,
leading to chaos until Shiva and Vishnu intervened. His indiscriminate kindness
led people to turn away from worshipping him.
Brahma Temple, Pushkar
The Brahma Temple in
Pushkar, Rajasthan, also known as Jagatpita Brahma Mandir, is the
most famous shrine dedicated to Lord Brahma.
- Age:
Over 2,000 years old, with the present structure built in the 14th
century.
- Renovation:
Adi Shankaracharya visited in the 8th century and carried out renovations.
Later, Maharaja Jawat Raj of Ratlam oversaw construction using stone slabs
and marble.
- Deity:
The sanctum houses a Chaturmukha Brahma idol (four-faced),
symbolizing his all-seeing nature.
Spiritual Significance
Legend says Lord Brahma
chose Pushkar to perform a yajna, impressed by the righteousness of its people.
Devotees believe:
- A holy bath in Pushkar Lake
followed by prayers at the temple ensures success and prosperity.
- Visiting the temple helps destroy
karmic imbalances and grants spiritual merits.
- On Pushkar Fair and Kartik
Purnima, special pujas are performed, drawing thousands of devotees.
Though Lord Brahma is
rarely worshipped, the Pushkar Brahma Temple stands as a powerful
spiritual center, reminding devotees of the divine act of creation. A
pilgrimage here is believed to fill the soul with profound energy and
consciousness, making it a must-visit shrine for seekers of both material and
spiritual prosperity.
