Chilkur Balaji Temple Hyderabad – Visa Temple Legend & Rituals
A trip to Hyderabad feels
incomplete without visiting the quaint town of Chilkur, home to the
unique Chilkur Balaji Temple. Nestled near Osman Sagar Lake along
Vikarabad Road, this shrine dedicated to Lord Venkateswara has earned
the nickname Visa Temple—thanks to the belief that prayers here help
devotees secure visas for education, work, or travel abroad.
The Legend
The temple’s origins
trace back to the 16th–17th century. A devotee, unable to make his
annual pilgrimage to Tirupati due to ill health, prayed fervently to Lord
Balaji. Moved by his devotion, the Lord appeared at Chilkur, sanctifying the
spot as His earthly abode. Since then, wish fulfillment has been central
to the temple’s lore.
Over time, stories of
students and professionals receiving visa approvals after praying here cemented
its reputation as the Visa Temple.
The Rituals
- 11 Parikramas (Circumambulations):
Devotees seeking blessings perform 11 rounds around the sanctum,
symbolizing the “secret of creation.”
- The two ones in “11” represent one
soul and one body.
- 108 Parikramas:
Once wishes are fulfilled, devotees return to perform 108 rounds in
gratitude.
- Here, “1” represents the Almighty,
“0” represents creation, and “8” represents the jivatma
(individual soul).
Unique Features
