The Elankavu
Bhagavathy Temple in Kottayam district hosts one of Kerala’s most unique
and visually stunning festivals – the Attuvela Mahotsavam. Celebrated
annually in honor of Goddess Bhagavathy, this vibrant water carnival is a blend
of legend, devotion, and cultural heritage.

Festival Highlights
- Illuminated Temple Replica:
A beautifully decorated and lit replica of the Elankavu Bhagavathy Temple
floats down the Muvattupuzha River.
- Legendary Symbolism:
The procession represents the grand welcome of the Kodungalloor Goddess
visiting her sister, the Goddess of Elankavu.
- Procession Route:
Begins at Attuvela Kadavu (2 km from the temple) and moves towards
the temple.
- Accompanying Canoes:
Numerous festooned and illuminated canoes flank the replica, creating a
magical spectacle.
- Music & Atmosphere:
Traditional percussion instruments guide the procession, filling the air
with rhythm and devotion.
