Significance
- Observed mostly in North India,
Holashtak is considered an inauspicious period leading up to Holi.
- According to mythology:
- It was during these eight days that Prahlada
was tortured by his father Hiranyakashipu and his aunt Holika.
- Lord Shiva burnt Kama Deva to
ashes during this time. Later, Kama was resurrected after eight days
of penance by his wife Rati.
Thus, Holashtak
symbolizes trials, penance, and eventual renewal.
Do’s During Holashtak
- Clean the house
using Gangajal for purification.
- Meditate
daily to maintain inner peace.
- Donate
generously, as charity during these days is considered auspicious.
- Chant Katyayani Mantra
for spiritual upliftment.
Don’ts During Holashtak
- Avoid auspicious ceremonies
like engagements, marriages, or housewarming.
- Do not move into a new house.
- Refrain from starting new business ventures.
