Tirumala Divya Darshan – Complete Guide to Footpath Pilgrimage and Token System

What is Divya Darshan?

  • Divya Darshan is a special darshan category provided by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) for pilgrims who come by foot.
  • It is available only for those who trek via:
    • Alipiri Mettu (longer route, ~11 km,).
    • Srivari Mettu (shorter route, ~2.1 km, open 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
  • Pilgrims receive a Divya Darshan token at the start of the footpath, which ensures entry into a separate queue at Tirumala.

Timings & Procedure

  • Token Issuance: Tokens are issued at Alipiri and Srivari Mettu footpath counters.
  • Darshan Hours: Divya Darshan queue is open daily, but timings depend on crowd levels.
  • Validity: Tokens are valid only for the same day; they cannot be carried forward.
  • Free Facility: No fee is charged for Divya Darshan.

Facilities for Pilgrims

  • Rest Houses & Shelters: Along the footpath, there are sheds, drinking water, toilets, and resting points.
  • Security & Luggage: Free luggage transport is provided by TTD from footpath entry to Tirumala.
  • Medical Aid: First aid and emergency services are available en route.
  • Food: Annaprasadam (free meals) is served at designated points.

Festivals & Crowd Management

  • During Brahmotsavam, Vaikunta Ekadasi, New Year, and summer holidays, Divya Darshan tokens are limited due to heavy crowds.
  • Pilgrims are advised to start early in the morning to secure tokens.

Beliefs & Significance

  • Walking barefoot on the sacred footpaths is considered austerity and devotion, symbolizing surrender to Lord Venkateswara.
  • Pilgrims believe Divya Darshan grants special blessings, as the effort of trekking is seen as an act of penance.
  • Many devotees undertake this journey during vows (mokku) or thanksgiving.

Tips for Pilgrims

  • Choose Srivari Mettu if you prefer a shorter trek; Alipiri Mettu is better for those seeking a full spiritual experience.
  • Carry essentials like water bottles, light snacks, and umbrellas during summer.
  • Avoid peak festival days unless you are prepared for long waiting hours.
  • Use luggage transport to avoid carrying heavy bags during the climb.
  • Start early morning for a peaceful trek and timely darshan.

    1. Sir,

As per the latest TTD update, Divya Darshan tokens are still given for Alipiri Mettu pilgrims. The only change is that tokens are now issued at the Bhudevi Complex near Alipiri, not on the footpath itself. So devotees must collect their tokens there before starting the climb. Sir please check with other sources and confirm
