What is Kartik Purnima?

Kartik Purnima, also known as Tripuri Poornima or Deva Diwali, is the culmination of the sacred Kartika Masam. It is one of the most spiritually charged days in the Hindu calendar, celebrated with grandeur in both Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions.

Mythological Significance

• Tripuri Poornima: Commemorates Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura, symbolizing the destruction of ego and darkness.
• Deva Diwali: Marks the return of Lord Vishnu to Vaikuntha after his symbolic stay in King Bali’s realm. It also signifies the end of Chaturmas and the awakening of Vishnu after Prabodhini Ekadashi.
• Radha-Krishna Rasa Leela: It is believed that Lord Krishna performed Rasa Leela with Radha and the Gopis on this night, making it sacred for Vaishnavas.
• Tulsi Vivah: Kartik Purnima is the last day to perform Tulsi Vivah, a symbolic wedding of Tulsi Devi and Lord Vishnu.

• Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam: Shiva temples conduct this powerful abhishekam, believed to wash away sins and grant moksha.
• Jalapushkarini Arati: Special arati is offered to rivers and water bodies, especially to Goddess Ganga.

• Ananthagiri Hills (Telangana): A grand Jatara at Ananthagiri Padmanabha Swamy Temple draws thousands of devotees.
• Fairs and Melas: Many religious fairs that begin on Prabodhini Ekadashi conclude on Kartik Purnima, making it the most significant day of the festivities.
