Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple – Navratri 2025 Celebrations in Vizag

Location

Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple is located in the historic Burujupeta area of Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the most revered temples in the city and a spiritual anchor for locals and pilgrims alike.

Temple Significance

  • The temple is dedicated to Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Ammavaru, considered the presiding deity of Vizag.
  • According to legend, the idol was discovered in a well near the fort of the local rulers and installed in the center of the road in 1912.
  • When authorities attempted to relocate the idol in 1917, a plague outbreak occurred. Locals believed the disturbance angered the goddess, and once the idol was restored, the plague subsided.
  • Devotees believe that wishes are fulfilled when prayers are offered with a pure heart. Thursdays are especially auspicious.
