Location
Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi
Temple is located in the historic Burujupeta area of Visakhapatnam
(Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the most revered temples in the city
and a spiritual anchor for locals and pilgrims alike.
Temple Significance
- The temple is dedicated to Sri
Kanaka Mahalakshmi Ammavaru, considered the presiding deity of
Vizag.
- According to legend, the idol was
discovered in a well near the fort of the local rulers and installed in
the center of the road in 1912.
- When authorities attempted to
relocate the idol in 1917, a plague outbreak occurred. Locals believed the
disturbance angered the goddess, and once the idol was restored, the
plague subsided.
- Devotees believe that wishes are
fulfilled when prayers are offered with a pure heart. Thursdays are
especially auspicious.
