Ritual Observances:
- Nirjala Vrat:
     A strict fast without food or water, observed by married and unmarried
     women.
- Puja Vidhi:
     Worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with flowers, sweets, and solah
     shringar (16 adornments).
- Jhula Ritual:
     Swings are decorated and used in gardens, symbolizing joy and the monsoon.
- Sindhara Tradition:
     Gifts like bangles, sweets, and clothes are sent to daughters by their
     in-laws.
Significance
- Divine Union:
     Celebrates the reunion of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva,
     symbolizing eternal love, devotion, and marital harmony.
- Feminine Grace & Fertility:
     Green attire, mehndi, and bangles represent fertility, prosperity, and
     feminine beauty.
- Marital Bliss:
     Women pray for the longevity and well-being of their husbands,
     similar to Karwa Chauth.
- Cultural Joy:
     The festival coincides with the lush greenery of the monsoon, hence the
     name Hariyali (greenery).
Legends & Mythology
The 108 Rebirths of
Parvati
- According to Hindu mythology, Goddess
     Parvati was reborn 108 times to win Lord Shiva’s love.
- In her 108th birth, she performed
     intense penance—surviving on dry leaves and braving harsh weather.
- Moved by her devotion, Lord Shiva
     accepted her as his consort, and their divine marriage is celebrated
     as Hariyali Teej.
The Story of Sati and
Rebirth
- Parvati was the reincarnation of Sati,
     who had immolated herself after her father insulted Shiva.
- Reborn as Parvati, she undertook
     severe austerities to reunite with Shiva, symbolizing devotion,
     discipline, and divine love.
Regional Celebrations
- Rajasthan:
     Grand processions of Goddess Teej with palanquins and folk dances.
- Punjab:
     Known as Teeyan, celebrated with Gidda and swings.
- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh:
     Group pujas, mehndi, and Teej fairs.
