Introduction
The Sree Rama Swamy
Temple, located in Ramapuram village near Pala in Kottayam district,
Kerala, is one of the 108 Abhimana Kshetrams. Dedicated to Lord
Rama in Chathurbahu (four‑armed) form, the temple is part of the famous Nalambalam
Yatra circuit. With a history of over 1000 years, the temple gave
the village its very name – Ramapuram.
Legends &
Significance
- Rama’s Meditation:
Legend says Lord Rama reached Ramapuram during his exile, finding it ideal
for meditation.
- Brothers’ Shrines:
His brothers searched for him and meditated nearby – Lakshmana at
Koodapulam, Bharata at Amanakara, and Shatrughna at Methiri. Over time,
shrines arose at these spots, forming the Nalambalam (four
temples).
- Nalambalam Yatra:
Visiting all four temples during the Malayalam month of Karkidakam
is considered highly auspicious, believed to bring prosperity and good
fortune.
