Temple Significance
This temple is not only a
spiritual center but also a symbol of Hyderabad’s cultural heritage. The
premises house several smaller shrines, built in accordance with Hindu
traditions, creating a sacred atmosphere for worshippers.
History & Legends
The temple’s origins date
back to the 17th century, during the reign of King Tana Shah of
Golconda. Two brothers, Akkanna and Madanna, served as the Prime
Minister and Commander-in-Chief in the royal court. Devoted disciples of
Goddess Mahankali, they performed daily puja at this temple before attending
court duties.
Tragically, after their
assassination, the temple was closed and fell into obscurity. For decades, its
existence was nearly forgotten until it was revived from the debris of Hari
Bowli at Shalibanda over sixty-seven years ago. Since then, the temple has
regained prominence as a center of devotion and community worship.
