Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple Tirupati – Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam 2026

The Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam at Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple in Tirupati on February 4 is a deeply symbolic ritual of purification, performed just before the grand annual Brahmotsavams (February 8–17). On this day, darshan timings for devotees will be 8 a.m.–11 a.m. and 3 p.m.–8 p.m., as the temple undergoes cleansing and sanctification.

Significance of Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple

  • Consecration by Sage Kapila Maharshi: The temple is named after him, and the sacred tank is called Kapila Theertham.
  • Unique Location: Nestled at the foothills of Tirumala, at the entrance of a natural cave, with water flowing directly from the hills into the temple tank.
  • Sacred Icons:
    • A massive stone Nandi faces Lord Siva, symbolizing devotion and protection.
    • The Swayambhu Lingam (self-manifested) is the presiding deity.
  • Legends (Sthalapurana): Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati appeared before Sage Kapila, blessing the site with divine presence.
  • Alwar Connection: A shrine for Nammalwar exists nearby, giving the tank the alternate name Alwar Theertham.

Temple Complex Highlights

  • Saiva Agama Shrines: Sri Kamakshi, Vinayaka, Subramanya, Dakshinamurthy, Nataraja, Kotilingeswara, Agastheeswara, and Navagrahas.
  • Vaishnava Traditions: Shrines of Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy, Sri Venugopala Swamy, and Abhaya Hasta Anjaneya Swamy, following Pancharatra and Vaikhanasa Agamas.
  • Spiritual Diversity: The temple beautifully integrates Saiva and Vaishnava traditions, making it a rare confluence of practices.
