Significance
- Mokshada Ekadashi
is celebrated as Gita Jayanti, the day Lord Krishna revealed the Bhagavad
Gita to Arjuna during the Kurukshetra war.
- The vrat grants moksha
(liberation) from the cycle of birth and death, leading devotees to Vaikuntha,
the divine abode of Lord Vishnu.
- Also known as Mauna Ekadashi /
Maun Agyaras, where devotees observe silence (mauna) throughout
the day.
- Scriptures state that observing
Mokshada Ekadashi equals the combined merits of all 23 other Ekadashis in
the year.
Rituals & Observances
- Early bath at sunrise
and purification rituals.
- Strict fasting
for 24 hours from sunrise of Ekadashi to sunrise of Dwadashi.
- Partial fasting
with milk, fruits, and vegetarian foods is permitted for those unable to
keep a full fast.
- Rice, pulses, onion, garlic
are strictly avoided.
- Bel leaves
are offered to Lord Vishnu.
- Worship of Lord Vishnu and Lord
Krishna with devotion.
- Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu Sahasranamam,
Mukundashtakam are recited.
- Evening visits to Vishnu temples for
darshan and celebrations.
- Annadanam (food donation) and gifting of the Bhagavad Gita are considered highly auspicious.
