Dhanurmasam Significance – Tiruppavai, Rituals, Do’s and Don’ts

 

Importance

  • Dhanurmasam is considered highly auspicious for Lord Vishnu worship.
  • It is believed that Lord Vishnu begins His day by listening to Tiruppavai Pasuras.
  • In Vishnu temples, Tiruppavai replaces Suprabhatham during this month.
  • One day of Dhanurmasa pooja = 1000 years of daily pooja.
  • Nama Sankirtanam is especially prescribed for Kaliyuga, making this month spiritually powerful.

Do’s

  • Wake up during Brahmamuhurtham.
  • Take a holy bath at home or in river.
  • Completely surrender to Lord Vishnu.
  • Offer flowers to Lord Vishnu.
  • Recite Tiruppavai, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Purusha Sooktham, Narayana Sooktham.
  • Decorate house with flowers and rangoli.
  • Visit Lord Vishnu temples.
  • Women can perform Margali Nomu / Katyayani Vratam for fulfillment of wishes.
  • Offer Sweet Pongal, Khara Pongal, Puliyodarai as prasadam.

Don’ts

  • Marriages and Gruha Pravesham are avoided during this month.
  • Hair cutting is not performed.
