Invoking the Grace of Goddess Lakshmi: Rituals, Beliefs, and Sacred Practices
Creating a Serene Space
- A pleasant and peaceful home
environment is essential to attract the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
- Decorate the puja space and threshold
with cow dung, fresh flowers, and rangoli to invite
auspiciousness.
Daily Devotion and
Recitation
- Recite
the Sri Suktam or Kanakadhara Stotram daily with devotion to
invoke her blessings.
- Numerous other Lakshmi stotras
are available in scriptures to please the goddess.
Purity and Direction
- Bathe and wear clean robes
before beginning worship.
- Face north
while performing Lakshmi puja, as it is considered the direction of
prosperity.
Tantric Worship of
Kamalatmika
- In Tantra, Lakshmi is
worshipped as Kamalatmika, one of the Dasha Mahavidyas (Ten
Wisdom Goddesses).
- During japa or mantra recital,
wear red or white robes and keep an energized image of
Gajalakshmi nearby.
- After japa, perform a havan with
pure ghee, as Agni is the divine messenger between devotee and
deity.
Sacred Symbols and
Enhancers
- Gomati Chakras,
found in the ocean, are considered Lakshmi replicas. Get them mantra-energized
by a guru or priest.
- Worship of Lord Kubera,
the treasurer of the gods, also pleases Lakshmi. According to the Puranas,
Shankha and Padma treasures are under his control.
Bilva Tree and Prosperity
- The Bilva tree is a sacred
symbol of Lakshmi. Legends say she emerged from it.
- Performing homa with bilva fruits,
while chanting Sri Suktam, is believed to bring wealth and
abundance.
- Lotus seed homa is also highly auspicious, as the lotus is Lakshmi’s divine seat.
