The temple is located in
the serene forested region of Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, about 5 km
from the main Tirumala temple complex. It is nestled amidst the Seshachalam
Hills, offering a tranquil and spiritually charged atmosphere.
Temple Features and
Deities
- Presiding Deity:
Sri Anjaneya Swamy (Lord Hanuman), worshipped as a Swayambhu
(self-manifested) idol.
- The temple faces east, and
notably does not have a Rajagopuram or Dhwajastambam.
- The sacred tank is called Rama
Pushkarini, and behind the temple lies the serene Sita Kund,
believed to be the bathing site of Sita Devi during the Ramayana
era.
Significance
- Jabali Maharshi
performed intense japa here to please Lord Hanuman, giving the site its
name: Japali Teertham.
- After discovering Sita in Lanka,
Hanuman was torn between joy and rage. He paused here to meditate and
resolve his inner turmoil.
- Upon attaining peace, Hanuman blessed
this place, declaring that sincere prayers here would lead devotees to
supreme truth and divine blessings.
Ganesha’s Presence in the
Tree
- Traditionally, temples begin with a Ganesha
idol, but this temple lacked one, leading to initial abandonment.
- Moved by this, Lord Ganesha manifested in the form of a growth at the base of a tree in front of the temple. Devotees now worship this sacred tree as Ganesha’s presence.
Festivals
- Hanuman Jayanti
is the most celebrated festival here, drawing large numbers of devotees
for special pujas and rituals.
