Kedara Gowri Vrata 2025 – Date, Legend, Rituals & Spiritual Significance

Kedara Vrata, also known as Kedara Gowri Vrata, is a revered Saivite observance celebrated across India with devotion and grandeur. It culminates on Deepavali, symbolizing the union of Shiva and Shakti in the form of Ardhanareeshwara. In 2025, Kedara Gowri Vrata falls on Tuesday, October 21.

The Legend of Kedara Vrata

According to sacred lore, a devotee of Lord Shiva once performed pradakshina (circumambulation) excluding Goddess Parvati, which deeply displeased Her. Lord Shiva explained that She lacked divine powers. Seeking empowerment, Goddess Gowri approached Sage Gautama, who advised Her to observe the Kedara Vrata. Through intense austerities, She pleased Lord Shiva, who granted Her His left half, manifesting as Ardhanareeshwara. This divine union became the essence of the Kedara Vrata.
