Bhanu Saptami – A Celebration of Lord Surya’s Divine Energy

Bhanu Saptami, also known as Surya Saptami or Vivaswat Saptami, is a revered day dedicated to Lord Surya, the Sun God. This auspicious occasion falls on a Sunday and marks the day Surya first appeared, riding his chariot of seven horses, symbolizing the spectrum of colors and vital life energy.

Observance of Bhanu Saptami takes place on Shukla Paksha Saptami (the seventh day during the waxing moon phase in the traditional Hindu lunar calendar). It is celebrated with great fervor by different Hindu communities in various months:

  • Magh Month (January–February) – the main Bhanu Saptami known as Ratha Saptami.
  • Falguna Month (February–March).
  • Jyeshta Month (June–July).
  • Kartik Month (November–December).
  • Margashirsh Month (December–January).

The rituals include performing Mahabhishek after the first sun rays fall on the Surya Yantra. Devotees chant sacred hymns such as Aditya Hrudayam and other Surya stotras, invoking Lord Surya’s blessings for health and prosperity.

Significance of Bhanu Saptami Puja:

  • Women perform this puja to attain good fortune.
  • Observing this day is believed to ensure a healthy and fulfilling life.

Bhanu Saptami is considered the most auspicious among all Saptamis and is widely celebrated in South India and parts of Western India.

By honoring the Sun God on this sacred day, devotees connect with his divine energy and seek his grace for vitality and success.
