Pushyami Karti
(occurring from July 20 to August 2) is traditionally hailed as the "King
of all Kartis" (Karthela Raju). In Hindu astrology, Pushyami
(Pushya) is considered the most nurturing and auspicious of all 27 stars.
Derived from the Sanskrit
word Posha, Pushyami explicitly means "to nourish, strengthen,
or protect."
1. Massive Agricultural
Significance
For farmers, Pushyami
Karti is the absolute backbone of the monsoon crop cycle.
- The "Golden Rains":
Rainfall during this period is believed to be exceptionally pure and
heavy. It provides a steady water layer essential for transplanting paddy
seedlings.
- Natural Crop Protection:
Traditional agricultural wisdom says that crops nurtured by Pushyami rains
are naturally shielded from major pests and diseases, guaranteeing a high
yield.
- Weather Forecasting:
Astrologers and farmers analyze the planetary alignments on the exact day
the Sun enters Pushyami to determine the rainfall patterns for the rest of
the year.
2. Ultimate
Auspiciousness & Wealth Expansion
Pushyami is ruled by Saturn
(discipline) and presided over by Brihaspati / Jupiter (the Guru of
Gods, representing wisdom and expansion).
- The Cosmic Cow:
The symbol of this Karti is the milk-yielding udder of a cow,
signifying endless nourishment, abundance, and selflessness.
- The Exception to the Rule:
In Hindu tradition, it is believed that a curse once placed on Pushyami
prevents it from being used for marriages. However, to counter that, every
other auspicious activity in the world becomes exponentially
successful if started during this time.
- Gold and Asset Buying:
Millions of people wait for this period to buy gold, real estate, silver,
or vehicles, believing that assets bought under Pushyami will multiply
over generations.
3. Health, Healing, and
Ayurveda
Because of its deeply
nurturing nature, Pushyami Karti is considered the prime time for medicine and
wellness.
- Potency of Herbs:
Ayurvedic doctors traditionally harvest herbs and prepare complex
medicines during these two weeks, as the cosmic energy is said to double
the healing potency of plants.
- Swarnaprashan:
A highly popular traditional pediatric immunization practice in India
involves feeding children drops of honey, ghee, and pure gold ash
specifically during this star alignment to boost intellect and immunity.
4. Spiritual Practices
- The Power of Puja:
Any spiritual chant (Japa), meditation, or ritual performed during
this fortnight yields immense mental peace and spiritual growth. It is
considered highly beneficial for clearing negative ancestral karma.
