- The full moon day of Margashira
month is considered highly sacred in Hindu tradition.
- Known by names such as Battisti
Purnima, Korala Purnima, Naraka Purnima.
- Devotees worship the Moon God,
as it is believed the Moon was blessed with Amrit on this day.
- In the Puranas, Margashirsha
is praised as “Maasonam Margashirshoham” – no month is more
auspicious.
- The day also marks the birth
anniversary of Lord Dattatreya, who incarnated during Pradosh Kaal.
- Special rituals are held in South
Indian temples dedicated to Lord Dattatreya.

Do
- Holy Bath:
Devotees wake early and take a ritual dip in sacred rivers, especially the
Ganga, chanting “Om Namo Narayana”.

Performed as it is Pournami.
- Fasting:
Observed with devotion to Lord Vishnu.
